Medical check-ups and distributions for sponsored children
Nov 03 2024Last weekend, on October 26th and 27th, a lot of activities were held for the 108 children supported through sponsorship.
Firslty, the children underwent a series of medical examinations to check their health in the local hospital of Coc Pai: For these families, having a fixed, free annual appointment to receive proper medical care is very important. Additionally, for cases requiring further treatment, GTV will accompany these families throughout their healthcare journey.
In these days the children also recieved the second annual rice distribution, as in 60 kg of rice to add to the previoulsy distributed 60 kg.. Although most of these families are farmers and produce their own rice, harvests are often ruined by weather events: the 120 kg distributed annually are therefore considered a significant support, helping these families provide adequate meals throughout the year.
Finally, the distributions also included materials to ensure access to water and hygiene for the families of the supported children. In fact, over the past few months, thanks to the Child Sponsorship program, building materials were delivered to three families without toilets, allowing them to build one near their homes. This completes the toilet construction program started by GTV in recent years, aiming to bring a concrete improvement in hygiene to all vulnerable families supported.
In 2024, 26 metal tanks for water collection were also distributed to as many families. Twelve of these tanks were delivered on Sunday, 27th in Nam Dan commune. These tanks are used by the families to collect rainwater and store water from nearby streams, which do not have a constant flow throughout the year. However, this water is not drinkable unless filtered or boiled first.
To ensure the success of these activities, our staff got assisted by a group of first-year volunteer students from Trường Đại học Luật Hà Nội (Hanoi Law University): over the two days, they dedicated their time and energy to directing children to the appropriate clinics, distributing rice, delivering the tanks, and bringing smiles to the children with games. Both the students and our Vietnam staff felt this was a positive experience and hope to replicate it in the future.
