From October 18 to 22, the first activities of the ISABEL project - Inclusione scolastica e Sostegno A Bambini con bisogni Educativi speciaLi in the schools of Ban Diu and Trung Thinh - were carried out. These included two days dedicated to teacher training and two days of visits to classromms of children with disabilities.
To conduct these activities, GTV relied on the educational professionals from the Thuy An Rehabilitation Centre, where people with disabilities are welcomed to learn in environments designed to meet all their needs. The training covered various topics: definitions and levels of disability, the importance of communicating effectively with children with disabilities, inclusive education methods, and ways to facilitate class cohesion to support peers with disabilities.
During the classroom visits, educators from the Thuy An Rehabilitation Centre observed the regular flow of lessons, provided teachers with advice on how to better engage their students with special needs, and assessed their learning levels. Support outside of lessons was also evaluated, particularly during meals in the cafeteria at Ban Diu Elementary School.
In the classroom visits in Ban Diu, our volunteer Serena, who is in Vietnam conducting research on the role of stakeholders in the growth, education, and care of children with disabilities, joined the two educators.
In just over two weeks, the same activities will be carried out in the communes of Quang Nguyen and Na Chi, while next year, ISABEL's activities will focus on supporting families..
