Thanks to the ongoing project 'Food Security for Families and Preschools in Ban Ngo and Nam Dan,' GTV is supporting the creation of six school gardens in as many kindergartens in the two communes. The final beneficiaries will be 134 pupils aged 3 to 5 years old.

After consulting with teaching staff, local authorities, and school cooks, the best spaces were identified for installing the necessary materials and planting the vegetables and fruit trees required for these new gardens.

Subsequently, GTV gathered each school’s needs for materials, plants, and seeds, which were distributed in early October 2024. Teachers and other adults involved, who had already removed weeds and prepared the soil in previous weeks, can now begin planting the distributed vegetables and plants.

It will then be the responsibility of the school cooks to supplement the young students' diet with the harvest gathered during the school months: vitamin and protein deficiencies are serious issues in the current school diet, which mainly consists of rice. Through these gardens and future training on healthy diets, GTV aims to help improve the situation and well-being of the children benefiting from this initiative.
