Smiles, rice and gifts for our childrenJan 30 2017
Thanks to the precious contribution of the Italian sponsor families, the Vietnamese children that are currently part of the programme receive: a scholarship with the payment of tuition fees and all materials needed to study, along with food and education for proper nutrition. For several years all parents (or tutors) of supported children participate in the activities of the Club of their district. In there Clubs parents receive training on proper nutrition and small loans to start or maintain the breeding or garden at home or other activities related to nutrition. But all children and their Vietnamese families also receive a small amount of rice, a staple food that is grown but that is never enough. Starting this year, the rice will be given two times a year, in January and June. And the first hand over is therefore just been made!
The referent of GTV in Vietnam Vo Thi Que went to Son Dong in the several villages to make sure that all the families were able to withdraw their rice bag. But beware, this is a special period in Vietnam: it is time for Tet celebration! The Tet Nguyên Dan, or the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, is the most important holiday of the country, and for the occasion GTV delivered together with the rice even a small gift. From An Chau to An Lap, passing through Le Vien and Tuan Dao, not to mention An Lac, the delivery of rice and gifts for Tết was a moment of joy and serenity, which we would like to tell you through the pics that have immortalized these moments.
Truth is, today we would like to tell you another story that is intertwined with these days of rice delivery: it is the story of Marino and Mai. Marino is from Cavalese, but lives in Vietnam with his wife Mai. In November Marino was in Trentino and came to the Vietnamese Dinner organized by GTV. He got passionate about our cause, and he also came to our office in Trento to buy a Vietnamese shirt ... and then, once back in Vietnam, he has decided to take the plunge: he decided to come to the headquarters of our projects, in scattered, mountainous Son Dong district, in order to be able to see with his own eyes the solidarity that we practice every day with our work. For us here at GTV, it was not easy to organize the visit. These visits are certainly not on the agenda, but we really enjoyed being able to trap commitments and visit. So Marino and Mai attended the delivery of rice, they have lived a first hand experience, an experience that represented "a great value of life" for Marino. Marino with his calm manner and with few words confirmed that the organization was good, although we know that the services of the only hotel in An Chau are very basic. He also thanked us, confirming what we have always known, namely that the aid is never one-sided, often in fact what we receive us is much more than we are giving.
Even for GTV was a special experience: if it is true that we already had other visits had already been organized, e.g. with high school boys from Arco, with Laura and Lorenzo (supporters of the sponsorship programme), it is also true that they have always been sporadic experiences. We were then pleased to try it again and we really hope to do it again soon, someone is planning a trip to Vietnam soon?
