Distribution of zinc for more resistant houses
Oct 11 2023In the framework of the project "More resilient Cambodian and Vietnamese communities after the Kampong Chhnang floods", financed by the Autonomous Province of Trento and Comet Pelli, in recent weeks, the local partner KCD (Khmer Community Development), in collaboration with the local authorities Kampong Chhnang, distributed galvanized sheets to 126 families, who had seen their homes destroyed or compromised by the floods at the end of 2022.
This action in fact has the aim of repairing the damage inflicted by the flood on the houses on stilts or floating houses (boats) inhabited by communities of Vietnamese or Cambodian origin living in the area and, at the same time, making these houses more resistant in anticipation of the coming rainy seasons and coming floods.
The selection of the 126 beneficiary families followed the criteria established by the KCD and GTV staff: priority was thus given to single-parent families, single women or elderly people who do not have any economic resources to independently cover the repairs.
Beneficiaries are now required to install these sheets within 2 weeks of distribution, when KCD will carry out monitoring.
This is one of the last actions of the ongoing project, which has already seen the completion of numerous training courses on the topic of "disaster management" aimed at schools and villages, as well as the distribution of seeds to restore crops destroyed by the flood. In the coming weeks, the distribution of life jackets and other small goods useful during the next rainy seasons will also be completed.
