Rice and health for children

Oct 21 2022

The Child Sponsorship Programme continues to guarantee dozens of families a more peaceful living, especially with regard to the growth and health of children, thanks to the annual medical check-up and the distribution of rice.

On the 1st of October, the children supported by the SAD were able to receive a medical check-up directly in their villages (in particular those of Coc Pai, Ta Nhiu and Nam Dan) with the accompaniment of their parents. From 7.30 to 16.30, 100 children underwent a visit with the otolaryngologist, a dental check-up and dental hygiene and an abdominal ultrasound. This aid is important because the hospitals are located far from these villages and difficult and expensive to reach; in addition, it is necessary to use the whole day to move around, thus losing a day of work. In this way, however, the health and safety of children is guaranteed without worries for the parents.

Right after, the children and their families received a 60 kg sack of rice. The rice is delivered twice a year for a total of 120 kg and for some families it is a regular appointment. This donation is important because cultivation in the mountains is not easy, also due to periods of drought that make irrigation difficult. Families live mainly on subsistence farming, so a poor harvest has a big impact on their livelihoods. Thanks to SAD it is possible to alleviate the difficulties and worries of parents and guarantee a balanced diet for children.

Your contribution continues to be fundamental for many families and we thank you deeply for this.
