CULTIVATE THE FUTURE - Two experiences blending nature, the environment, and knowledge
May 06 2026As part of the “Coltiva il Futuro” project, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and Caritro Trento, classes from the Bresadola Institute participated in two field trips with the aim of observing the natural environment up close, exploring the relationship between humans and the local area and the global interconnections that define it, and reflecting on issues related to sustainability and resource use.
The activities took place on two separate days, April 21 and 29, during which the students were accompanied by educators and representatives from the associations involved in the project. Each field trip included opportunities for walking, observation, play, and discussion, alternating between hands-on activities and moments of reflection in the field.
Field Trips
The first field trips took place on April 21 and 29 in Vezzano and Baselga di Pinè. The first trip consisted of a walking tour in the Vezzano area. The route followed flat terrain with some uphill sections, mainly along trails with short paved stretches. During the walk, there were opportunities for environmental observation and group activities, including a break for a packed lunch and free play time in the afternoon. The outing provided an opportunity to explore various topics related to water and the local area: water as a fundamental resource, observed in part through the presence of a power plant viewed from above. Glacial wells and the shaping power of water in the landscape were also analyzed. Further discussion focused on economic development linked to the presence of water, with references to mills, fountains, and the historical use of the resource. Particular attention was also given to the Calavino Irrigation Canal, as an example of water use in agriculture. The participation of GTV and ACAV was crucial, as they provided concrete examples of the importance of water in the communities where they operate, highlighting its fundamental role in daily life and community development.
The second outing took place from Trento to Baselga di Piné. The group continued on foot to the designated activity areas, following a program that included walking, observation, and playtime. Here too, representatives from ACAV and GTV presented examples of the effects of typhoons in Southeast Asian countries, particularly Typhoon Yagi, reflecting on the consequences these extreme weather events have on communities and regions, while for the Trentino context, Storm Vaia was referenced.
Conclusion
These two experiences allowed students to get to know their local area more closely, observing its natural features and how they interact with human activities. Through a hands-on, field-based approach, it was possible to link theory and experience, making learning more concrete and engaging.
The GTV project will continue with additional field trips, initiatives, and meetings, offering new opportunities to explore the environment, delve deeper into the topics addressed, and continue the educational journey in the local area.
