An important news of the 2021 Distance Adoption Program was GTV engagement in giving an actual help to improve the hygienic conditions of adopted children and their families.

The idea arose after that was observed that most private houses didn’t have any form of bathrooms. GTV collaborated with the local authorities and built a total amount of 23 private bathrooms for as many families involved in the Distance Adoption Program who live in the municipality of Coc Pai. This initiative will continue in 2022, until all the families of the program will benefit from it.

The toilets are in brickworks, have a squat toilet, a sink, a shower and a water tank. The bathrooms can benefit from a tap water system, so that they work properly, and have water flushes.

As soon as the anti-Covid-19 rules allow families to gather, GTV will organise a training on how to maintain and clean the toilets. There will also be chances to talk about good hygienic habits to avoid the spread of oral-faecal diseases.

This initiative is important not only for the families, but also for the local authorities. The municipality of Coc Pai contributed to back the construction of the toilets providing the necessary concrete. Its representatives underlined officially and stated to GTV how important this project is for the human development of local rural communities. The improvement of hygienic conditions of the population is a great priority also in the district of Xin Man, which will financially support the project during the next years to help other families.

When daily needs of the poorest families, public programs and the generosity of GTV’s donors align and result in tangible initiatives such as this, we at GTV strongly believe that the idea of “community cooperation” that guides our action since 1999 comes true.
