Context :
The project will focus on the municipality of Ban Ngo, part of the Xin Man district, specifically in the villages of Tao Thuong (inhabited by 106 families, 476 people) and Tao Ha (inhabited by 87 families, 405 people). Additionally, these two villages house four school, of different levels : two preschools (one for each village), an elementary school, and a lower secondari school that also serves the surrounding villages. In total, there are 754 students, 175 residents in Tao Ha and Tao Thuong, and 579 students from other villages, along with 60 teachers and staff.
Finally, in the two villages, there is a health center and a public office (in Tao Thuong) with 25 employees. Currently, families in Tao Thuong and Tao Ha rely on various unsafe water sources. Most extract water from irrigation channels in the fields, which, in turn, pump water from the nearby river. Others obtain water from small mountain springs using makeshift pipelines. The water from these sources is brought to households through simple pipelines and stored in cement or plastic tanks. In both cases, there is no water treatment before domestic use, and this water does not meet national quality standards. It is visually turbid and contains solid residues
Families cannot afford to purchase bottled water.
Objectives :
The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 outlined in the United Nations' 2023 Agenda in the Xin Man District. Specifically, the goal is to "Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, "with a focus on target 6.1, which aims to" achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030."
The specific objectives of the project are :
01 : Provide access to safe drinking water for all families, schools, the public office, and the health center in the villages of Tao Thuong and Tao Ha, located in the municipality of Ban Ngo, Xin Man district.
02 : Disseminate knowledge and awareness regarding proper hygiene practices in the two target villages.
These objectives align with the broader commitment to improving water access and sanitation, contributing to the global efforts outlined in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The successful implementation of the project will not only address immediate water quality issues but also empower the communities with information on maintaining proper hygiene practices for long-term well-being.
Actions :
The project will involve the implementation of the following actions :
A1 : Distribution of home purification filters to 193 families, 4 schools, a health center, and a public office in the villages of Tao Thuong and Tao Ha. Each structure will receive a purification system consisting of a 9-stage filter, connected to a stainless steel tank with a capacity of 1,200 liters, also provided by the project.
A2 : Training courses on filter maintenance to ensure the durability and efficiency the filtering systems.
A3 : Water quality testing. Once the distribution of filters and water tanks is complete, water samples from treated sources will be collected to analyze the effectiveness of the filtering systems. analytical samples will be taken from water tanks (input) and water filter taps (output), and these samples will be analyzed based on parameters outlined in Vietnam's water quality standards for rural areas
A4 : Training courses on proper hygiene practices. In the two villages and schools, training and awareness activities will be organized to emphasize the importance of proper hygiene practices. These sessions with games and posters in the target schools. The aim is to empower the community with the knowledge needed to maintain good hygiene practices for improved health and well-being.
Expected Results :
