SEEDS of SAD – Growing educational communities through remote support

Budget

25.000 €

Duration

2024 - 2025

Objective

Giving insights on both  sustainable development issues and international cooperation

Context:

In the last few years, there has been a marked resurgence of “social pathologies,” which, according to Durkheim’s original definition, lead to behaviors and actions that prevent the harmonious functioning of collective life. As a result, phenomena such as social hatred, ethnic intolerance, and domestic and gender-based violence are significantly on the rise..
Significant strategies to mitigate the growing psychosocial distress could stem from “Educating Communities,” understood as places for the regeneration of the social pact. In this perspective, an important opportunity arises from experiences gained in the field of distance support, which, as a tool for participatory solidarity among citizens, represents a socio-relational practice that promotes social capital in both directions—toward the beneficiaries and the supporters themselves.
The project aims to implement and regenerate educating communities through the methodology of SAD (Distance Support), focusing on the role of younger generations, who, in line with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), are seen as social agents of change and dialogue among peoples.
The project was conceived within the ForumSAD network following the national intervention “Distance Support in Italy: tackling new poverty, promoting social cohesion and generative welfare,” which highlighted the need to innovate welfare policies by defining new people-centered intervention methodologies.

This project is coordinated nationally by the association Project For People, in collaboration with the national network Forum SAD and with the contribution of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies..

Objectives:

The goal is to move beyond the “assistance” approach and focus on practices that emphasize the active participation of beneficiaries and co-design within communities, involving all stakeholders. The “SEEDS OF SAD” proposal focuses on the following strategic intervention themes: combating economic and socio-educational poverty; developing socio-pedagogical networks and educating communities; promoting intergenerational solidarity; supporting the creation of new shared social infrastructures by educating subjects through social design.

Activities:

AXIS I: Social Places
A mapping of educating realities on the territory is planned. In each region/Autonomous Province, Work Tables will be set up or strengthened, and the involved partners will select a local project coordinator who will participate in Educating Communities’ meetings. Initiatives to recruit groups of citizens, associations, and school networks will be developed, establishing multi-stakeholder social hubs (SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities) aimed at designing educational services and regenerating spaces for Educating Communities.

AXIS II: Social Learnings
Multilevel training pathways in the socio-educational and geopolitical fields will be carried out for the different stakeholders of the educating communities, with strategic focus areas dedicated to students (SDG 4 – Quality Education). The training programs will particularly focus on the educational value of Distance Support and methodologies for fighting educational poverty.

AXIS III: Social Vision
Communication actions on the values of solidarity and Distance Support will be developed for citizens and institutions, with the aim of establishing a ministerial table on proximity support (SDG 17 – Global Partnerships for Development). An audiovisual brand, “Cultivating the Future,” will be created, involving students from the schools through a call in the 21 project territories. The “Cultivating the Future” recognition will be awarded to the most virtuous subjects mapped in the territories who have joined the educating communities.
