The first two training courses on healthy nutrition for parents and teachers of the schoolgartens of Nam Dan and Doan Ket were held last September.

This training is part of the FIABA Project - Training on Hygiene, Nutrition, Students’ Well-being and was backed by the Waldesian Church and by donations in the memory of the young Giulia Tita.

These days of courses, in these two schools, are meant to be part of the interventions to fight child malnutrition which have previously been implemented. Two school gardens have already been set with the aim to improve the students’ diet, which is normally based only on rice, and new equipment has been provided to allow cooks to prepare healthy food with a suitable hygiene standard.

79 people joined the courses for a total number of four days.

The participants could learn the overall principles of a diversified and nutritious diet. The food pyramid, which shows a balanced diet, was used to think about the nutritional requirements on the basis of different ages, such as children, pregnant women, elderly people. The focus was mainly on kindergarten-age children.
The purpose of the training courses was to make families and teachers more aware of the importance of choices in matters of nutrition and of processing and storage of foods according to hygiene norms, both in school kitchens and at home.
The training courses were based on the available food in the province of Ha Giang, where the project takes place. Many ideas were given on how to prepare healthy and nutritious meals.
During the practical part of the course, the participants cooked some of these dishes, which were discussed with the trainer later.
