Context

The project aims to enhance the positive impact of farming (which remains the predominant sector in Vietnam) on the environment, in particular with the goal to decrease the pressure on forests and the protection of biodiversity.
Vietnam is one of the 16 countries in the world more rich in biodiversity. However there has been a steady loss and degradation of natural resources caused by over-exploitation and pollution.

Many years of experience in the district of Son Dong gained by CIAI and GTV have led them to meet, discuss and work with all sections of the population, from farmers to municipal and district authorities; it's from this long-term collaboration that the idea for this project arose.
Both NGOs have implemented several projects in Son Dong, following the direction of the district authorities who reported the Son Dong district as the poorest in the area and in need of intervention. This condition has led NGOs to choose Son Dong as the preferential area where implement their strategy of community development.

Activities

In order to improve the productivity and sustainability of the production of medicinal plants in the district of Son Dong we want to achieve the following results:
- the creation of a sustainable model of production of medicinal plants in the District of Son Dong;
- the spread of this model of sustainable production in the District;
- the creation of a Bank of seedlings for the nature reserve of Tay Yen Tu;
- the organization of the processing and marketing of medicinal plants.

8 April 2015 - Delivered the first medical plants!

22 February 2016 - A study tour to learn how to grow medicinal

Impact

The project results will be disseminated through an interactive photo exhibition on biodiversity and the issues of the project, in conjunction with the Expo2015.
The exhibition will be staged in various Italian cities with particular attention to "environment friendly" places (schools, organic food shops, markets, libraries, etc.).
