Context

Bangladesh is the most densely populated country in the world and recorded a high rate of poverty. Its particular geographical location exposes the country to frequent floods and cyclones. In 2007, Cyclone Sidr devastated the southern Bangladesh, killing 3,000 people and destroying 650,000 hectares of crops. They are 8 million people affected by the disaster, about half of whom are children.

Activities

The project is developed through training in schools.

The goal is to create a base of population aware of the risks arising from
natural disasters and capable of handling crisis situations.

Training activities include activities such as:

  • Preventive measures

  • Crisis management measures

  • Education for environmental management

  • Promotion of the rights of the most disadvantaged groups

  • Psychological support and development of activities socioricreative

The strategy of action provides an initial training of a group of teachers that in addition to
processes of awareness will in turn form groups of student volunteers.

These will spread what they have learned in their respective communities of belonging, creating a
virtuous circle of active and participatory learning. The ultimate goal is then to
reach the widest possible segment of the population and not just the school children.
